When the battery reaches the gassing voltage threshold, the Phoenix automatically limits the rate of voltage increase rather than pushing through it. This protects battery plates and extends overall battery life, particularly important on AGM and gel batteries that are more sensitive to overcharge than flooded lead-acid. Storage mode activates automatically when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In storage mode, float voltage drops to 2.2V per cell (13.2V on a 12V equivalent, 26.4V on a 24V bank) to minimize gassing and positive plate corrosion. Once per week the charger raises voltage back to absorption level to equalize the battery and prevent electrolyte stratification and sulfation, two of the leading causes of premature battery failure on boats that sit between seasons. Every Phoenix charger includes a battery temperature sensor. When connected, the charger automatically adjusts charge voltage based on battery temperature, which is particularly valuable for sealed batteries and installations where ambient temperature swings significantly between day and night or season to season. The voltage sense feature compensates for voltage drop across long cable runs, ensuring the battery receives the correct charge voltage regardless of resistance in the wiring between the charger and the battery terminals. Input voltage range is 90 to 265V AC, covering both North American 120V and European 240V shore power without any manual switching. The charger also accepts 90 to 400V DC input for DC-to-DC charging applications.
