The EMP 45-02647 is an upper gimbal ring shaft kit for MerCruiser sterndrives. The upper gimbal ring shaft is the pivot point around which the sterndrive steers and tilts. It passes through the gimbal ring and connects the drive to the transom assembly, and the condition of this shaft directly affects steering precision and drive alignment. A worn, corroded, or damaged shaft causes slop in the steering, uneven drive movement, or difficulty holding a straight course. On a sterndrive that has seen significant saltwater use or has not been serviced in several seasons, this is a component worth inspecting closely.
This kit fits MerCruiser Alpha One, Alpha Gen II, Bravo I, Bravo II, Bravo III, and Vazer sterndrives. It replaces Mercury and Mercruiser part number 98230A1 and Sierra part number 18-73131. EMP manufactures this shaft kit to OEM specifications for correct dimensions, material, and fit on the listed applications.
