In 4 Barrel Rochester Carburator-Mercury - Sierra Marine Engine Parts (18-7615) or Quadrajets, the metering rods are well-moved by a vacuum-operated piston, which controls the air-fuel ratio. It enables the mixture to lean under low load conditions and rich under high load. In a less popular variation, the power piston is mechanically well-moved by a linkage powered by the throttle shaft.
Key Features:
Quadrajets feature a computer-controlled mixture control solenoid for precision fuel metering enabling more fuel under load.
The solenoid responds to electronic signals from the throttle position and oxygen sensors via the computer.
The fuel mixture can be very nearly at its ideal thanks to the solenoid-controlled metering rods, which are then pulse width modulated at a rate of roughly 6 Hz to fine-tune the air-fuel ratio in a closed loop
Remanufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications

In the automobile it is the fuel injection technology has effectively replaced carburetors. The butterfly valve reduces air intake. It allows a fuel-rich charge to flow into the cylinders. The choke opens gradually while the engine warms up, either by hand or automatically via heat- and engine-speed-responsive controllers.
