These are not your average outboard fuel systems. Optimax and Verado engines run higher fuel pressures and tighter tolerances than conventional carbureted or basic EFI outboards, which means fuel filtration is not a place to cut corners or run a filter past its service life. Optimax engines use direct injection technology to deliver precise fuel charges at high pressure directly into the combustion chamber. Verado engines add a supercharger into the mix, pushing four-stroke performance into territory that rivals two-stroke power-to-weight ratios. Both engine families are sensitive to fuel contamination, and a degraded or clogged filter can cause injector issues, rough running, and hard starting that is expensive to diagnose and repair. This filter replaces the following part numbers directly: Mercury/MerCruiser: 35-8M0020349, 35-8M0122423 GLM: 24964 Racor: 31871 Sierra: 18-7981 Fuel filter replacement intervals on Optimax and Verado engines are outlined in the Mercury service documentation for your specific model.
