EMP 27-27405 Carburetor Gaskets
The EMP 27-27405 is a carburetor base gasket for Johnson and Evinrude 2-cylinder outboards from 18 to 35 horsepower, covering model years 1985 to 2001. The base gasket seals the carburetor to the intake manifold or reed block, preventing air leaks at that joint. An air leak at the carburetor base causes a lean fuel mixture that results in rough idle, hesitation, hard starting, or erratic RPM behavior. Any time the carburetor is removed for cleaning or rebuilding, the base gasket should be replaced rather than reused. A gasket that has been compressed and heat-cycled will not seal as consistently as a new one, and at this price there is no reason to find out the hard way.
This gasket replaces BRP part number 330621 and crosses with Sierra 18-2852, GLM 33710 and 33170, and Mallory 9-60445. EMP manufactures it to OEM specifications for correct thickness, bore dimensions, and material compatibility on the listed applications.

This base gasket is a direct replacement for BRP OEM part 328618, designed for Johnson/Evinrude 3-cylinder 60-75 HP outboards from 1985 through 1988. The base gasket seals the powerhead to the exhaust housing, and a failed one typically shows up as exhaust leaks, water intrusion into the powerhead, or a loss of compression at the base of the cylinders. It's a small part that does a critical job.
If you're pulling the powerhead for any reason on one of these engines, replacing the base gasket while everything is apart is standard practice. It's inexpensive insurance against having to go back in again.
