The PSS Shaft Seal is also recognized as the premiere retrofit (aftermarket) seal on the world market. Certified by Bureau Veritas, ABS & Rina: Boat builders / yards recognize the advantages and value of installing the PSS as it eliminates the maintenance, constant adjustment & cost associated with traditional packing type glands. Aside from these benefits, the PSS Shaft Seal helps to eliminate water in the bilge (100% water tight) & wear to the propeller shaft. The PSS Shaft Seal can be easily retrofitted and is available for shafts ranging from 3/4" (20mm) to 6" (150mm).The PSS Shaft Seal is a mechanical face seal that is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is attached to the vessels stern tube with hose clamps and the carbon flange is attached to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor is fit on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. The stainless steel rotor is used to compress the bellows before the collar is secured to the shaft with set-screws. This compression (pre-load) maintains contact between the faces and allows the PSS to compensate for the thrust from the propeller. The carbon flange is bored larger than the shaft diameter allowing it to "float" around the shaft and thus compensate for most misalignment and vibration problems. The stainless steel collar is sealed to the shaft by two o-rings that are recessed into the bore of the collar. These o-rings rotate with the shaft and stainless steel rotor and do not experience wear during operation.**As with any rubber hose below waterline, the PSS bellows must be inspected on a regular basis for any sign of wear, aging or chemical deterioration. PYI suggests as preventative maintenance that the PSS bellow be replaced in six year intervals. During bellows replacement it is recommended the o-rings & set screws in the stainless steel rotor also be replaced."Bellows may need to be more frequently inspected in an environment where non-sealed batteries emit sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid vapor will accelerate rubber deterioration, as will an ozonater. The Maintenance Kit includes the items you need to properly maintain your PSS Shaft Seal. Included in the kit is one (1) PSS bellow, two (2) O-rings, five (5) set screws, four (4) new hose clamps and an allen key. Western Pacific Trading Western Pacific Trading Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing 5/8" x 22" #10037 $36.66 $43.75
Western Pacific Trading 10037 Prop Shaft Seals Shaft packing is one of those things you do not think about until your bilge pump starts working overtime. The Western Pacific Trading 10037 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing gives you a reliable, long-lasting seal around your prop shaft without the constant drip adjustments that traditional flax packing demands. Tefpack is a PTFE-based synthetic packing material that runs cooler and lasts longer than conventional flax. It does not absorb water, swell, or compress unevenly over time, which means once it is set, it stays set. This listing is for a 5/8" cross-section x 22" length coil, giving you enough material to repack a standard stuffing box with material left over for the next service interval. The 5/8" size fits stuffing boxes designed for 5/8" packing, so confirm your stuffing box specification before ordering. Installation follows the same process as flax packing: cut rings at a 45-degree angle, stagger the joints, and compress evenly. The PTFE construction means you can run it with minimal drip, which is a welcome change if you have been chasing a leaky stuffing box for years. Western Pacific Trading part number: 10037 Tefpack PTFE synthetic shaft packing Size: 5/8" cross-section x 22" length Fits standard 5/8" stuffing boxes on inboard and inboard/outboard applications Runs cooler than flax packing, reduces heat buildup on the shaft Does not swell or compress unevenly over time Cut rings at 45 degrees and stagger joints for best seal Normalized SKU: 10037

Western Pacific Trading Western Pacific Trading Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing 1/2" x 22" #10036 $32.67 $39.00
Western Pacific Trading 10036 Prop Shaft Seals If your stuffing box takes 1/2" packing, the Western Pacific Trading 10036 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing is the right coil to have on hand. At 1/2" cross-section x 22" in length, this single coil gives you enough material to fully repack a standard stuffing box and still have a ring or two left for next time. Tefpack is built around PTFE, the same low-friction material used in high-performance sealing applications across industries. Unlike traditional flax packing, PTFE does not absorb water, swell, or break down from continuous exposure to bilge conditions. It runs cooler against the shaft, which means less heat buildup and less wear on both the packing and the shaft itself over time. Installation is the same as flax: cut rings at a 45-degree angle, stagger the joints 90 degrees apart, and compress evenly with the packing nut. Once set, Tefpack holds its shape and requires far less routine adjustment than flax. If you have been retightening your packing nut every few weeks, switching to a PTFE-based packing like this one is a straightforward upgrade. Western Pacific Trading part number: 10036 Tefpack PTFE synthetic shaft packing Size: 1/2" cross-section x 22" length Fits standard 1/2" stuffing boxes on inboard and inboard/outboard applications Runs cooler than flax, reduces shaft and packing wear Does not swell, compress unevenly, or degrade in bilge conditions Cut rings at 45 degrees and stagger joints 90 degrees for best seal Normalized SKU: 10036

Western Pacific Trading Western Pacific Trading Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing 7/16" x 22" #10035 $26.10 $31.15
Western Pacific Trading 10035 Prop Shaft Seals The 7/16" stuffing box is one of the more common sizes found on smaller inboard and stern drive applications, and the Western Pacific Trading 10035 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing is cut specifically for it. At 7/16" cross-section x 22" in length, this coil gives you enough material to fully repack your stuffing box with rings to spare. Tefpack uses PTFE as its core material, which is a significant step up from traditional flax in terms of performance and longevity. PTFE does not absorb water, does not swell under load, and does not harden or crack over time the way organic packing materials can. The result is a shaft seal that runs cooler, requires less frequent adjustment, and holds up better through seasons of use. To install, cut rings to length at a 45-degree angle so the ends meet cleanly around the shaft. Stagger each ring joint 90 degrees from the previous one, then compress evenly with the packing nut. A slight weep is normal and healthy during initial break-in. Once seated, Tefpack tends to stay put far longer than flax, which means fewer trips to the bilge with a wrench. Western Pacific Trading part number: 10035 Tefpack PTFE synthetic shaft packing Size: 7/16" cross-section x 22" length Fits standard 7/16" stuffing boxes on inboard and inboard/outboard applications PTFE construction runs cooler and lasts longer than flax packing Resistant to swelling, hardening, and water absorption Cut rings at 45 degrees and stagger joints 90 degrees for best seal Normalized SKU: 10035

Western Pacific Trading Western Pacific Trading Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing 3/8" x 22" #10034 $21.51 $25.68
Western Pacific Trading 10034 Prop Shaft Seals The 3/8" stuffing box is common on smaller inboard-powered boats and some older stern drive applications, and the Western Pacific Trading 10034 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing is sized exactly for it. The coil measures 3/8" in cross-section and 22" in length, giving you plenty of material to fully repack your stuffing box with enough left over for the next service. Tefpack is a PTFE-based synthetic packing that outperforms traditional flax in nearly every practical way. It does not absorb water, does not swell or compress unevenly, and holds its shape through seasons of use without hardening or cracking. The lower friction of PTFE against the shaft also means less heat generated at the stuffing box, which is good news for both the packing and the shaft itself. Installation follows standard stuffing box procedure: cut each ring at a 45-degree angle so the ends meet cleanly around the shaft, stagger the joints 90 degrees between rings, and compress evenly with the packing nut. A small weep during initial break-in is normal. Once Tefpack is seated, it typically needs far less follow-up adjustment than flax, which is one less thing to check on every trip out. Western Pacific Trading part number: 10034 Tefpack PTFE synthetic shaft packing Size: 3/8" cross-section x 22" length Fits standard 3/8" stuffing boxes on inboard and inboard/outboard applications PTFE construction runs cooler and lasts longer than flax packing Resistant to swelling, hardening, and water absorption Cut rings at 45 degrees and stagger joints 90 degrees for best seal Normalized SKU: 10034

Western Pacific Trading Western Pacific Trading Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing 5/16" x 22" #10033 $16.43 $19.61
Western Pacific Trading 10033 Prop Shaft Seals The 5/16" cross-section is the smallest in the Western Pacific Trading Tefpack lineup, and it is the right fit for stuffing boxes on smaller inboard-powered boats and certain vintage applications where a compact packing size is specified. This coil measures 5/16" in cross-section x 22" in length, which is enough to fully repack a stuffing box with material left over for the next service interval. Like the rest of the Tefpack series, part number 10033 is built around PTFE, a synthetic material that handles continuous water exposure without swelling, hardening, or breaking down. Compared to traditional flax packing, PTFE runs with less friction against the shaft, which translates to lower operating temperatures at the stuffing box and less wear on both the packing and the shaft over time. Installation is the same process used across the Tefpack range: cut each ring at a 45-degree angle for a clean joint around the shaft, stagger successive ring joints 90 degrees apart, and tighten the packing nut evenly. A slight weep during initial break-in is expected and healthy. Once seated, Tefpack holds its compression well and typically requires far less routine adjustment than flax. Western Pacific Trading part number: 10033 Tefpack PTFE synthetic shaft packing Size: 5/16" cross-section x 22" length Smallest cross-section in the Tefpack lineup; fits standard 5/16" stuffing boxes Suitable for smaller inboard and inboard/outboard applications PTFE construction runs cooler and lasts longer than flax packing Resistant to swelling, hardening, and water absorption Cut rings at 45 degrees and stagger joints 90 degrees for best seal Normalized SKU: 10033

Western Pacific Trading 10031 Prop Shaft Seals The 3/16" cross-section is the entry-level size in the Western Pacific Trading Tefpack lineup, designed for the smallest stuffing boxes found on compact inboard-powered boats, small sailboats, and certain vintage or light-duty applications. At 3/16" cross-section x 22" in length, this coil gives you enough material to fully repack a stuffing box with rings to spare for next time. Tefpack is built on PTFE, a synthetic material that handles continuous water and fuel exposure without swelling, hardening, or deteriorating the way organic packing materials can. It runs with lower friction against the shaft than traditional flax, which means less heat generated at the stuffing box and less wear on both the packing and the shaft over extended use. Installation is the same across the entire Tefpack range: cut each ring at a 45-degree angle so the ends meet cleanly around the shaft, stagger successive ring joints 90 degrees apart, and compress evenly with the packing nut. Western Pacific Trading 10032 Prop Shaft Seals At 1/4" cross-section, the Western Pacific Trading 10032 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing covers the smallest stuffing box sizes found on compact inboard-powered boats, small sailboats, and certain vintage applications. The coil measures 1/4" in cross-section x 22" in length, which is more than enough to fully repack a stuffing box and have material left for the next service. Tefpack is a PTFE-based synthetic packing, and the 1/4" size carries all the same performance advantages as the larger sizes in the lineup. PTFE does not absorb water, does not swell under compression, and does not harden or crack over time. It runs with less friction against the shaft than traditional flax, which keeps heat down at the stuffing box and reduces wear on both the packing and the shaft surface. Western Pacific Trading 10030 Prop Shaft Seals At 1/8" cross-section, the Western Pacific Trading 10030 Tefpack Synthetic Shaft Packing is the smallest size in the Tefpack range. It is sized for the most compact stuffing boxes found on small inboard-powered boats, vintage runabouts, and light-duty applications where a larger packing cross-section simply will not fit. The coil measures 1/8" in cross-section x 22" in length, giving you plenty of material to fully repack a stuffing box with enough left over for the next service. Like every size in the Tefpack lineup, part number 10030 is built on PTFE. That means it does not absorb water, does not swell under compression, and does not harden or crack over time the way traditional flax packing can. The lower friction of PTFE against the shaft keeps heat down at the stuffing box, which is good for both the packing material and the shaft itself over the long run. To install, cut rings at a 45-degree angle so the ends meet cleanly around the shaft, stagger each ring joint 90 degrees from the previous one, and compress evenly with the packing nut.
