Velvet Drive's Full Synthetic Gear Oil (part #4008244C02-1) is the factory-specified lubricant for Velvet Drive marine transmission gear sets. Packaged in a 1-quart (32 fl oz) bottle, this fluid is formulated specifically for the gear and bearing surfaces inside Velvet Drive inboard marine transmissions, where conventional gear oils simply don't hold up to the heat and load cycles of on-water use.
The full synthetic base stock delivers consistent viscosity across a broad temperature range, from cold morning starts to extended high-load operation. It provides strong film strength to protect gear teeth and bearings under the kind of sustained torque loads that inboard applications regularly produce, particularly in vessels running higher HP engines or operating in warm water conditions where fluid temps climb faster.
This gear oil is distinct from ATF-based transmission fluids. It is designed for the gear section of Velvet Drive units rather than the hydraulic clutch circuit, so using the correct fluid in the correct location matters. Refer to your transmission's service manual to confirm which fluid goes where, as some Velvet Drive models use different fluids in different cavities.
Full synthetic formulation also means better oxidation resistance and a longer service interval compared to conventional gear oils, which is a practical advantage for boats that see regular seasonal use. One quart is typically sufficient for a gear section top-off; a full drain-and-fill may require additional quantity depending on the specific transmission model.
