Yamaha built some of their most popular and longest-running outboard models through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, and a lot of those engines are still on the water today. Keeping the cooling system in good shape on these motors is one of the best things you can do to protect that investment, and the thermostat is a key part of that system. It controls coolant flow through the powerhead, opening at its rated temperature to allow circulation and holding closed during warm-up to help the engine reach operating temperature efficiently. A thermostat that sticks or fails can cause the engine to run too cold, too hot, or inconsistently, none of which are good for long-term engine health.
The EMP 75-75512 Thermostat Kit covers an extensive range of Yamaha outboards from 115 to 225 horsepower across multiple model designations and production years spanning 1991 to 2002. It is a direct replacement for Sierra part number 18-3608 and Yamaha part numbers 6E5-12411-30-00 and 688-12414-A1-00. If you are cross-referencing from any of those numbers, you are in the right place.
